Clinical Organisations
Professional work in clinical organisations is interfered with by certain unconscious forces. This I became aware of through reading, personal experience and research. I wrote about it when working in therapeutic communities, and later from the vantage point of a Consultant Psychotherapist in a psychiatric hospital. Caring clinically for ill people, both physically and mentally ill, is a stressful occupation, and the stress permeates the whole organisational system, and at worst affects the practice and quality of the work. It has always seems an important aspect of the work, to question if unconscious influences are in play, especially in those cases where solutions seem ineffective and elusive.
